New pattern on its way….

We are in the midst of a new pattern launch.  The ‘Constance’ is a small messenger bag with oodles of catwalk savvy! With a quilted style front and back, this new arrival will be fun and easy to make.  We are going to offer the Constance as two handbag sewing patterns each with a different approach to how they are made up and the choice of fabrics that you might choose to use.  Here is a sneaky handbag preview of the toile in development……!

A touch of couture is what makes your home sewing project special

As we develop our next sewing pattern we thought we would share with you how detailed our supporting pattern instructions are and how attention to detail is everything?  It occurred to us that we might take for granted how important the finishing touches are when it comes to a design and couture led sewing project and that we should share this finishing process with you.

The image attached to this post is of the back of a bow detail that is designed to be attached to the Classic Lucy, the Ascot Lucy (from our Autumn/Winter 2015 pattern collection) and the Lucy ‘Mini’ (from our Spring/Summer 2016 pattern collection) handbag ranges.

You can visit our pattern shop to see more close-ups and detail if you would like to?

It is this attention to detail that we hope gives our sewing patterns a touch of couture and that you will draw a great deal of satisfaction from in terms of the quality of finish that you can achieve when sewing and dress making at home.

Pretty woman …. Pretty handbag! Ideal brides maids or mother of the bride hand bag project

The Lucy sewing pattern is almost ready.  We are going to sample the Lucy in two different fabrics and sizes which will provide two very different uses or sense of occasions.

One in eco leather and a smaller version in cotton organdy/ organdie.  We are thinking the eco leather version would suit a formal ‘dress to impress’ type of occasion and the smaller design would work well for bridesmaids and for little flower girl baskets at a wedding.

The image attached is the draft version of the Lucy where we test proportions and draft the pattern guidance notes prior to launch.

I love Lucy! …a special occasion tote to sew at home

We are just working on our next bag and here she is in draft as a paper toile.

I love Lucy!

A rather glamorous edition to our ‘Ready to Make’ collection.

We are going to make the Lucy in two sizes.

She is going to be ideal for a night out at the opera, an occasion such as Mother of the Bride or even the mini for a trio of brides maids to carry on the special day.  Imagine the Lucy all in white organza or organdie filled with a posy of flowers for everyone to admire!

Updates will follow as we begin to make the first pattern.

For the Love of Handbags !

Having just designed and drafted our next handbag pattern, we are very excited!

Why are we excited? …well, this is the first of many posts that we are going to write to promote and capture exactly what happens behind the scenes of a design and pattern drafting studio.  We are new to writing about our work in this way but we are hopeful it will be a liberating experience whilst also helping with the success of very our small company.

Our aim is to record a journey that captures what we are thinking, what we are seeing and what inspires our ideas and design development.  We will also capture the trials and tribulations of designing and drafting sewing and knitting patterns from scratch as the process can sometimes be intense!

Please drop us an email or post a comment to let us know what you think as our journey unfolds.

Why not visit our Pattern Shop for inspiration and available sewing patterns too.

How to tie a Celtic Button Knot

We found this great (and simple) tutorial on How to tie a Celtic Knot from The Weavers of Eternity Paracord Tutorials.

We are going to play around with this knot to make the front fastening for our next hand bag project.  Once we have made a few samples we will let you know how we get on and what the possibilities are.

If anyone can recommend any other knot types or tutorials then please post a comment to share with our community and let us know.

Update:  here is a link to the ‘Lady A’;  A handbag pattern made from 100% wool felt and just oozes catwalk appeal!

A Paper Pattern in Progress

Having made several draft paper toiles, we are now happy with the balance and proportions of The ‘Lady’ Anderson.  The next stage is to make a toile in fabric.  This will iron out any glitches and to be sure all the pattern notches align. We will also begin to write up the draft instructions as we go along before we make the finished handbag.

We are now going to place all the instructions on-line to help the sewing and making up process more visual and easy to understand. We hope you will find this useful?

If you would like us to let you know when the pattern is available then please post a comment or drop us an email and we will be sure to let you know.
